Where can I go?
- Most large chain pharmacies (like CVS or Walgreens) or those found in grocery stores (like QFC or Safeway) are offering the most up-to-date COVID-19 shots.
- You can often schedule online to make an appointment or call ahead to ask about walk-ins.
- Be sure to bring your insurance card if you have one.
- The vaccine is anticipated to be available within UW Medicine clinics soon. Please check in with your PCP’s clinic for more information about availability.
Will I have to pay?
- If you have Apple Health (Medicaid), the vaccine is covered at no cost to you.
- If you have a private health insurance plan, it is likely covered.
- Sometimes coverage depends on whether your pharmacy is in-network. If it is where you regularly pick up your prescriptions, it is likely okay.
- To be safe, you can check your insurance’s website or call the number on your insurance card to find out about cost and coverage.
- If you do not have insurance or it is not covered by your insurance, you can ask your pharmacy for more information about the cost before you get the vaccine.
Do I need a prescription?
- No, not in Washington State.
- The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) has issued a standing order, which means you do not need an individual prescription to get vaccinated for COVID-19.
- The standing order authorizes providers to administer updated COVID-19 vaccines to all persons aged 6 months or older, including pregnant individuals. This is consistent with prior season vaccine recommendations.
- DOH suggests that you have a copy of the standing order available at your appointment. This can be digital (like on your phone) or printed.
- You can review their FAQ document online for further information including what to do if you are denied at the pharmacy.
